Nallamala reverberated with ‘Om Namah Sivaya’ chants as pilgrims from Karnataka and Maharashtra began arriving and trekking for kilometres, passing through the forests to offer prayers at the Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple in Srisailam on the occasion of Ugadi festivities. Ugadi festivities will be held from March 27 to March 31 at the famous Jyothirlinga temple.

While devotees from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana throng the temple during the Mahasivaratri Brahmotsavams, people from Karnataka and Maharashtra in large numbers visit the shrine during Ugadi.

Devotees from the two States bring the yield from their agriculture fields apart from the traditional `sare’ to Goddess Bhramarambha and offer them to the presiding deities. Devotees walk for hundreds of kilometres to reach Nallamala forests days ahead of the festivities. The Srisailam temple and district administrations made elaborate arrangements for the devotees passing through the forests.

While temporary sheds have been erected in the forest area to provide shelter, voluntary organisations and philanthropists have been providing free food and medical services to the visiting devotees.

According to Srisailam temple executive officer M. Srinivasa Rao, a large number of pilgrims have begun arriving at Srisailam, and arrangements have been made at the Kailasa Dwaram to receive the devotees who trek for hundreds of kilometres. “A massive temporary shed has been arranged for the pilgrims. A temporary pipeline has been laid from Kailasa Dwaram to Bheemunikoluvu for providing drinking water to the devotees,” he said.

Similarly, water tanks with a 1,000-litre capacity each have been arranged at six locations between Kailasa Dwaram and the Bheemuni Koluvu route. Another eight tanks with 5,000-litre capacity each have been arranged at Kailasa Dwaram.

Apart from these, water is being supplied through the permanent water source at Kailasa Dwaram. Arrangements were also made for the convenience of devotees at Hatakeswaram and Sakshi Ganpati temple.

The temple administration is also providing milk and buttermilk at the Annadanam, being supplied by philanthropists from Karnataka. “We have also made arrangements for maintaining hygiene at all the places, particularly at Kailasa Dwaram, where devotees offer coconuts. Upkeep of sanitation is also our priority,’‘ Mr. Rao said.
