Delhi’s new Chief Minister
That Rekha Gupta, a first-time MLA, has become the Chief Minister of Delhi, ‘defying all odds’ if I may add, needs comment. The so-called unanimous “selection” of the leader of BJP’s Delhi legislature party, that took almost two weeks, smacks of the Congress’s culture. There was hectic lobbying by the over half-a-dozen aspirants. This is because the Delhi unit of the BJP has several defectors from other political parties. Giant killer Parvesh Verma could not make it perhaps because of the party’s strategic policy to focus on women. Whether this will pay dividends to the BJP or not, only time will tell. The “unity” forged by the party’s high command should last the five years for Ms. Gupta to serve the people of Delhi. If the party’s manifesto is not implemented in toto, the people of Delhi might go back to the Aam Aadmi Party, sooner rather than later.

Parties with an ideology that differs from that of the BJP’s have obviously failed to learn important lessons in political management to match the aspirations of young voters. A lack of dynamism, hard work and discipline in party management are what mark the political opponents of the BJP.

A pat for Trump
Whatever Donald Trump’s second term portends for America, his vow to end the Gaza war came true. Again, the credit for the U.S. and Russia agreeing to ending the war in Ukraine goes to Mr. Trump. He deserves praise for the cessation of two mindless wars.
