Joe Biden will fight cancer “with his trademark resolve and grace,” former president Barack Obama said on Sunday (May 19, 2025) after Biden’s office announced he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of the disease.

“Nobody has done more to find breakthrough treatments for cancer in all its forms than Joe, and I am certain he will fight this challenge with his trademark resolve and grace. We pray for a fast and full recovery,” Obama, who made Biden his vice president, said on X.

Former U.S. president Joe Biden “is a fighter,” his vice president Kamala Harris said on Sunday after he announced that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had spread to his bones.

Ms. Harris said she was “saddened” to learn of the diagnosis, adding in a post on X: “Joe is a fighter – and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership. We are hopeful for a full and speedy recovery.”

U.S. President Donald Trump said Sunday that he was “saddened” by the news his predecessor and political rival Joe Biden had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery,” Mr. Trump, who has repeatedly derided Biden for his cognitive abilities and aged demeanor, said on his Truth Social platform.
