Mumbai rains: IMD issues orange alert for State capital, red alert for Vidarbha region

India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday (July 25, 2025) issued an ‘orange’ alert for Maharashtra’s Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Nagpur and Wardha districts, while a red alert has been issued in Raigad, Ratnagiri and Ghat region of Pune and Satara, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gondia, Gadchiroli districts over the next two days.

IMD issued “extremely heavy rainfall warnings” for Konkan and Goa, while extremely heavy rain, along with thunderstorm and lightning warnings, for the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. According to IMD, the reason for heavy rainfall has been the low-pressure area (LPA) over Rajasthan that rapidly turned into a depression, causing conversion of moisture. A similar situation was over Jharkhand, causing heavy rainfall in Mumbai.

Mumbai witnessed heavy downpour on Friday, with average rainfall in the last three hours recorded 8 mm for Mumbai City, 36 mm in the Eastern suburb and 41 mm in the Western suburb, as per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The Mumbai civic body has also issued a four-day alert till July 27 for high tides in the Arabian Sea. On Friday, BMC advised to avoid visiting the seashore during high tide and forecasted a high tide of 4.66 meters at 12.40 pm

Over the last 24 hours, Mumbai witnessed 10 short circuit cases, two house collapses in the island city division, and at least 11 trees fall incident.
