Mohit Suri’s romantic drama Saiyaara, starring Ahaan Panday and Ananya Padda, has been one of the most talked-about success stories of 2024. After an extraordinary run that saw it storm past Rs 300 crore in India, the film has now begun showing signs of exhaustion at the ticket windows. On its 46th day, Saiyaara collected just Rs 4 lakh, registering an 80% drop compared to Sunday’s Rs 20 lakh haul. While the sharp fall underscores its waning box office power, the film has already cemented its name in the history books with an astonishing total of Rs 329.19 crore.
The Fall After the Storm
Saiyaara had enjoyed an extended run of strong collections, even in its sixth and seventh weekends. On its seventh Sunday, the film managed to draw in family audiences and die-hard romantics, earning a decent Rs 20 lakh. However, as is often the case with long-running blockbusters, the weekday crash was inevitable after weekend spikes. Monday saw a massive drop of 80%, leaving the film with just Rs 4 lakh in earnings.Such steep declines after six successful weeks are considered normal in trade circles. By this stage, the bulk of the audience has already watched the film, and repeat viewership, though present, cannot sustain weekday numbers for long. The film has also survived big releases like Ashwin Kumar‘s Mahavatar Narimsha, Rajinikanth’s Coolie and Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR and Kiara Advani‘s War 2.
A Certified Blockbuster
Despite this dip, Saiyaara’s overall performance is nothing short of historic. With a lifetime total of Rs 329.19 crore in India alone making it the second biggest hit of the year and overall 14th biggest hit of Hindi Cinema.
The Word-of-Mouth Factor
What fueled Saiyaara’s box office longevity was not just its strong music album but also its emotional storytelling that resonated with audiences across generations. While critics gave it mixed reviews, word of mouth ensured the film sustained well beyond its initial weeks, pulling off rare day-to-day consistency.
Place in the Record Books
Trade emphasize that the 80% fall on its seventh Monday does not tarnish Saiyaara’s box office glory. Few films manage to reach the seventh week with daily collections in the lakhs, and even fewer cross the Rs 300 crore mark without the backing of a superstar-driven action spectacle. By breaking stereotypes about what kind of films can succeed, Saiyaara has created its own legacy.
