Well-known lyricist and writer Siva Shakthi Datta passed away at his house in Manikonda in Telangana on July 07, 2025. He was 92.
Datta, father of Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravani, was celebrated for his Sanskrit-based for Telugu movies. He is the uncle of SS Rajamouli of RRR and Baahubali fame.
Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi posted about the death of Datta on X (formerly Twitter). “The news that Sri Shiva Shakti Datta, a painter, scholar of the Sanskrit language, writer, storyteller, and multifaceted genius, has attained divine union has left me deeply shocked,” the actor wrote.
“Praying to the Almighty that his soul finds peace… I express my profound condolences to my friend Keeravani garu and his family members.”

Actor Mahesh Babu, who was recently seen in Guntur Kaaram, paid respect to Datta in person. Datta wrote lyrics for blockbuster movies such as Sye, Rajanna, HanuMan, RRR, and Magadheera. Datta’s only directorial was Chandrahas (2007). He also wrote Janaki Ramudu (1988), starring Akkineni Nagarjuna.
