“While we remain deeply concerned about the prospects for overall and sustained regional security and stability, we welcome reports of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel and the role played by the U.S. and Qatar in bringing it about,” the MEA said on Tuesday (June 24, 2025), after U.S. President Donald Trump announced the ceasefire.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on June 22 called for “immediate de-escalation” in a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Mr. Trump said in a post on social media platform Truth Social on Tuesday (June 24, 2025): “The ceasefire is now in effect. Please do not violate it.”
The ceasefire, however, appeared shaky as Iran fired a missile at Israel, which hit Beersheva and led to multiple casualties in a residential block. This was followed by reports of Israel firing missiles at Iranian military targets.
“We wish to reiterate that there is no alternative to dialogue and diplomacy in order to address and resolve the multiple conflicts in the region. India stands ready to play its part in these efforts and hopes that all concerned parties will work towards sustained peace and stability,” the MEA said, responding to the developments.
