International Coffee Day: Latte, espresso, cappuccino? Learn your caffeine game before your next date!

Imagine this: you are finally going on your long-awaited first date with your crush—a cosy café coffee date, no less. You’ve got flowers in your hand and nailed the whole opening-the-door act, essentially channeling your inner gentleman. But then the barista asks you, “What would you like to order?” and you freeze. All that chivalry went out the window because you don’t know anything about coffee! Don’t worry, though. We’ve got you covered with the ultimate coffee guide, so the next time you amaze with both your charm and your coffee knowledge!

There are mainly three types of coffee, latte, cappuccino, espresso and but, before we go into the distinctions between them, let’s look at their similarities. The only, and the most important similarity is that, a latte and cappuccino will often contain a strong shot of espresso. But do you know..

What is Espresso?

An espresso is a typical Italian beverage brewed with the exact same beans that are used to make American coffee. The primary difference between coffee and espresso is the preparation of the beans and the grinding procedure.

You’d need to grind the coffee beans finer than the coffee itself. If you want to drink the espresso as is, go ahead. Alternatively, you can use it as a base to create other drinks such as latte, cappuccino, etc.

A cup of Cappuccino

As previously stated, a cappuccino is an espresso-based drink with a single shot of espresso, foamy milk, and steamed milk. The cappuccino froth can be dry or silky, depending on your preferences.

The smooth froth (also called micro or silky foam) will include no bubbles. On the other hand, you’ll observe huge bubbles on the dry froth.

Love of Latte

A latte is the older brother of the cappuccino. The entire latte-making process is very similar with the other two beverages.

Just blend it with steaming milk, which will make up roughly two-thirds of your drink. It would also contain a little coating of frothed milk, which would give it a distinct and attractive aspect.

So, the next time a barista asks about your order, you should know everything, but if you prefer, you can enjoy these drinks at home without too much trouble. There are no long recipes to follow.

There are various other coffees as well, but we need to learn the basics first. But for all the other coffee, have a look at the image below!

Have a happy Cafe Coffee Date!
