Owning land on the moon might sound like a plot from a science fiction movie, but several celebrities have made this a reality. The concept gained popularity after the Lunar Embassy, founded by Dennis Hope, started selling lunar land. Dennis Hope, a former car salesman, founded the Lunar Embassy in 1980, claiming ownership of the moon and other celestial bodies. He utilized a loophole in the 1967 UN Outer Space Treaty, which prohibits nations from owning celestial bodies but does not mention individuals. Hope’s Lunar Embassy has sold lunar land to millions of people, including numerous celebrities.
