Anant-Radhika’s wedding: What is Nita Ambani holding in her hand in this picture? – Times of India

Finally, D-day is here when India’s richest person, Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita’s youngest son-Anant Ambani is marrying Radhika Merchant. While the wedding festivities have begun, one can’t miss but notice that Nita Ambani is holding a picture of a Hindu deity in her hand. But what is it and why is Nita Ambani holding? Read on to learn more about this Gujarati wedding tradition.
Raman divo: A Gujarati wedding tradition

At Anant and Radhika’s wedding, Nita Ambani can be seen holding a ‘Raman divo’ as per Gujarati wedding traditions. ‘Raman divo’ consists of Ganesh ji’s figure (in the form of a picture or idol) and oil lamp (or diya). As per Gujarati traditions, the mother of the groom holds a ‘Raman divo’ as it is considered to be auspicious and it also wards off the evil eye (nazar). Generally, a Raman divo is made of brass, but considering the opulence of the Ambani wedding, Nita ji is seen carrying a golden Raman divo– which is quite rare and unusual!
Meanwhile, this is not the first time that Nita Ambani was seen carrying the Raman divo. At her elder son Akash’s wedding too, Nita Ambani was seen following this Gujarati wedding tradition.
Isha Ambani holding ‘Lun’ bell at her brother’s wedding

Earlier at Akash Ambani’s wedding, the sister of the groom Isha Ambani Piramal was seen holding the ‘Lun’ bell, as per Gujarati wedding tradition. A ‘Lun’ bell is made up of a small katori or kalash which is filled with coins, and its mouth is tightly tied with a cloth. This is then used as a small bell or ghanti, which the sister of the groom rings during the wedding rituals. The reason being: in the olden days, the grooms used to be quite young and their weddings would generally happen at night. So to keep them awake through the wedding night, the sister of the groom used to ring the Lun bell. This is also considered auspicious as it is believed to keep the groom safe and protected from nazar or the evil eye.
And so, we are sure to see Isha Ambani Piramal following the Gujarati traditions and ringing the ‘Lun’ bell for her younger brother Anant as well for his wedding.
Anant-Radhika’s love story
For the unversed, Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant have known each other for roughly six years now. The couple had a traditional ‘roka’ ceremony at Shrinathji Temple in Nathdwara, Rajasthan on December 30, 2022. This was followed by a formal engagement or Gol Dhana ceremony which was held at the Ambani house Antilia in Mumbai in 2023. Earlier in 2024, the Ambanis hosted two lavish pre-wedding parties for Anant and Radhika– first in Jamnagar, Gujarat which was followed by a cruise party in Europe.
Their pre-wedding festivities began roughly 10 days ago, and on July 12 Anant and Radhika are finally getting married.
