In a recent interview, Tahiliani shared his personal connection to uniforms, inspired by his father’s career as an Admiral in the Indian Navy. “That’s probably why I wear a bundi every day, my own daily uniform,” he remarked. This deep-rooted connection is reflected in his designs for the Olympic team, aiming to create outfits that are both stylish and comfortable.
The men’s ensemble
Tahiliani’s vision for the men’s ceremonial outfit includes a short kurta paired with a bundi, designed to offer both style and comfort. Using India’s tricolor and traditional fabrics like brocade and Ikat print, Tahiliani aims to create a look that empowers athletes to represent India with pride and confidence. “For the men, a short kurta paired with a bundi offers a stylish and comfortable choice. Trust me, I live in them, and I wouldn’t call myself particularly athletic,” he added.
The women’s attire
Female athletes will be gracing the event in ready-to-wear pre-stitched sarees, featuring an Ikat print with the impression of the tricolor. These sarees, paired with matching blouses, are designed to be both elegant and practical, allowing the athletes to move with ease while making a powerful fashion statement. The sarees will also be designed by Tahiliani, ensuring a cohesive and polished look for the entire team.
