Giant Panda
With a diet made up almost entirely of bamboo, giant pandas have existed for three million years but were so elusive in the high mountains of China, that they were hard to spot. It is believed that they weren’t discovered by western naturalists until 1869. Even today, they are hard to spot and your best chance of seeing one is in a wildlife centre or zoo.
