Jennifer Lawrence, Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Martin Scorsese has set his next project, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence starring in What Happens at Night, an adaptation of Peter Cameron’s ghost story novel.

The film, scripted by Patrick Marber (Closer), follows an American couple who travel to a snowbound European town to adopt a child. They take up residence in a vast but fading hotel where they encounter a string of eccentric and unsettling figures, including a chanteuse, a faith healer, and a corrupt businessman. As their stay deepens, reality begins to blur and their relationship unravels.
Apple Original Films is in talks to finance and produce the project alongside Studiocanal, which developed the screenplay. Production is expected to begin in early 2026.
The film marks the first collaboration between Lawrence and Scorsese as director. The filmmaker is a producer on Lawrence’s upcoming Die, My Love, which premiered at Cannes earlier this year. DiCaprio, a longtime Scorsese collaborator, last worked with the director on Killers of the Flower Moon.
Both leads are in a busy awards-season stretch. DiCaprio stars in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, opening next week to strong early reviews. Lawrence will next be seen in Lynne Ramsay’s Die, My Love, opposite Robert Pattinson.

For Scorsese, What Happens at Night extends his ongoing relationship with Apple. The studio not only backed Killers of the Flower Moon but also maintains first-look deals with both Scorsese’s Sikelia and DiCaprio’s Appian Way.
The project reunites Scorsese and DiCaprio with material reminiscent of their earlier thriller Shutter Island. With three Oscar winners leading the production, expectations are already high for the filmmaker’s latest venture.
