Karur stampede: DMK MP submits petition seeking compensation for four TVK cadres in Namakkal

Rajya Sabha member and DMK MP K.R.N. Rajeshkumar submitted a petition to Namakkal District Collector on Sunday (September 28, 2025), demanding compensation for four Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) cadres getting treatment in hospitals after fainting during the TVK rally in Karur on Saturday (September 27).

TVK President and actor Vijay was scheduled to address a rally near K.S. Theatre on Salem Road at 8.45 a.m on Saturday (Septmeber 27). The event drew thousands of cadres, including women, who gathered on the spot since 5 a.m.. However, Mr. Vijay reached the spot at 2.30 p.m.

As the cadres continued to wait for over eight hours, around 15 cadres, including women, fainted and were taken to various hospitals nearby by other party memebers.

Four cadres, including M. Manoj Kumar (24), a resident of Govindapalayam in Namakkal; R. Ezhilarasi (24), a resident of Kathiranallur; A. Santhosh (24), a resident of Komarapalayam; and V. Arumugam, a resident of Anbu Nagar in Namakkal, are currently receiving treatment and are out of danger, as per sources.

The remaining cadres were discharged after treatment from various hospitals.

Meanwhile on Sunday (September 28), DMK MP Rajeshkumar, in his petition, demanded compensation from the government for the four people, similar to the one announced for the stampede victims in the Karur rally.

Speaking to the reporters, Mr. Rajeshkumar said that, as in Karur, in Namakkal too four people are getting treatment at private hospitals in Salem, Erode, Coimbatore, and Namakkal Government Medical College Hospital.

He said that the the Collector assured to get the compensation for these four people. On behalf of DMK, ₹50,000 was given to Ms. Ezhilarasi, who is getting treatment in a private hospital in Salem.

“Likewise, we are trying to contact the family members of the remaining two persons getting treatment in private hospitals and DMK will help them to get treatment,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Namakkal police on Sunday (September 28) registered a case under Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act against TVK Namakkal district in-charge Sathish and others for installing banners and flex boards without permission.

Investigation in the matter is underway.
