Karnataka CM unveils statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Belagavi

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah unveiled a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Veera Soudha memorial, the venue of the 1924 Belgaum Congress session, in Belagavi on December 26. 

He took a look at the renovated park, memorial hall and library. He spun the charka kept in the front yard. 

Deputy CM D. K. Shivakumar inaugurated the renovated photo gallery that displays photographs of Gandhiji and other leaders who attended the 1924 session. They went through the gallery and viewed images of the session that included Gandhiji’s speech, procession and baton transfer from leader Mohammad Ali.

Deshpande, News Department Secretary Kaveri B.B., Commissioner Hemant Nimbalkar, District Collector Mohammad Roshan, GOM CEO Rahul Shinde, Joint Director of News Department, Deputy Director of News Department Director Gurunath Kadabur and others were present

CM visits Army War Memorial

Earlier, he paid respects to army soldiers killed in an accident. He placed wreaths on the caskets containing the bodies of Subedar Dayananda Tirakannanvar and Mahesh Marigonda at the Army War Memorial. He announced that the government of Karnataka would provide all assistance to families of martyred soldiers.

He told reporters that it was very painful that they were martyred in an accident in Jammu and Kashmir. He said he shared the pain of all the families of the deceased. He said that four soldiers of Karnataka had died in an accidents recently. They included Dayanand Tirakannanvar of Belagavi, Dhanraj Subhash of Chikkodi, Mahesh Nagappa of Bagalkot, and Anoop Poojary of Kundapur.
