Justice Sathya Narayana Prasad of Madras High Court no more

Justice J. Sathya Narayana Prasad of the Madras High Court died in Chennai on Tuesday (May 6, 2025). He was 56 years old and 42nd in seniority among the present working strength of 63 judges in the High Court.

According to sources, he complained of uneasiness at his official residence in Chennai on Tuesday evening and was rushed to a private hospital in the city before he breathed his last.

A native of Minnal village near Arakkonam in the erstwhile North Arcot (presently Vellore) district, he was born at Thanjavur in March 15, 1969. His father R. Jaiprasad was a retired district and sessions judge.

Justice Prasad had studied at Vorhees Higher Secondary School in Vellore before pursuing his under graduation in history at the Loyola College in Chennai. He obtained his Master’s in history as well as the law degree from the University of Delhi.

He got enrolled as an advocate in 1997 and worked under advocate A. Ilango till 2000. After commencing independent practice, he served as a standing counsel for Chennai Port Trust, Coimbatore Municipal Corporation, Food Corporation of India and many other organisations.

He was elevated as a judge of the Madras High Court in 2021.
