Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC president D.K. Shivakumar on Thursday predicted that there is a possibility of the Janata Dal (Secular) merging with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) soon.

Speaking to reporters at the KPCC office after admitting JD(S) party workers from Chamarajpet into the Congress, Mr. Shivakumar said, “If we look at Union Minister and JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy’s attitude, there is a possibility that the JD(S) will merge with the BJP soon. If it merges, it will be good for us too. We can also fight directly with the BJP. Then there will be no confusion of three parties in the game,” Mr. Shivakumar said.

The JD(S) and the BJP were in alliance for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, and the JD(S) is part of the NDA government at the Centre.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that he was more experienced in politics, and there is no need for him to learn from Mr. Kumaraswamy. “I have worked as a Minister for a long time. I know how to govern and whom to and whom not to hold meetings with.”

The KPCC president was replying to Mr. Kumaraswamy’s objections to the Deputy Chief Minister holding a meeting with police officials in Ballari, following the death of a Congress worker on January 1. Mr. Kumaraswamy and Mr. Shivakumar have been at loggerheads on several issues.
