Minister for Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu on Wednesday said that he was monitoring flight connectivity for Srinagar to ensure the safe return of stranded tourists following the terror attack in Pahalgam.

The airlines have also been instructed to avoid fare surges, he said.

“I’m personally monitoring the situation and in constant touch with Home Ministry & airline operators,” Mr. Naidu said in a post on social media platform X.

Seven flights to and from Srinagar were added on Wednesday by various airlines, including IndiGo and SpiceJet.

Earlier, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation issued an advisory to airlines to increase the number of flights to meet heightened demand and ensure the safe return of stranded tourists.

The regulator has also asked airlines to waive cancellation and rescheduling fees, and provide assistance to tourists facing challenges.

‘Waiver on cancellation, rescheduling’

All airlines, including IndiGo, Air India and Air India Express, have announced a waiver on cancellation and rescheduling fees. Air India said it was capping airfares, and IndiGo said it was keeping airfares moderate.

A control room has been set up at Srinagar airport to monitor passenger flow and provide assistance. Tents too have been pitched to manage the surge of passengers.
