The aim is transparent. Charting reduces the time passengers spend in uncertainty, allowing easier alternate planning. It also allows timely transfer of vacant berths to subsequent stations via the Passenger Reservation System (PRS).The Railway Board said, “With a view to inform passengers well in time about the reservation status so as to remove the anxiety of passengers coming from the remote locations to get the long-distance trains, it has been decided to prepare the first reservation charts.” What changes in railway travelIndian Railways has revised the timing for preparing reservation charts so that passengers can know their ticket status much earlier than before. Before this, reservation charts were commonly prepared about 4 hours before departure.Under the revised rules:Reservation charts will now be ready at least 10 hours before departure for all trains.
