The Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM), Kurnool, and the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI), Bangalore, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as strategic partners to accelerate collaborative research and development (R&D) in advanced manufacturing, machine tools, and related technologies, here on Tuesday (November 25, 2025).
This collaboration aims to benefit the students, industry, and the manufacturing sector. The MoU establishes a framework for leveraging the complimentary resources, faculty, scientists, and facilities available at both institutes.
On the occasion, Prof. B.S. Murthy, Director, IIITDM-Kurnool said that the primary objective of the MoU is to jointly work on R&D in design and manufacturing engineering and other advanced technology areas.
Specific collaborative areas include micromachining, additive manufacturing and special manufacturing processes, smart manufacturing, IOT, automation, green manufacturing, industrial ergonomics, metrology, sensor and vision technologies, and industry 4.0; collaborative research in material sciences and surface engineering; and undertaking joint research activities supported by National and International Funding, potentially including agencies like DST, CSIR, and ANRF.
“This MoU also enables shared access to high-end research infrastructures at both institutes on a chargeable basis,” Prof. Murthy said.
Raj Kumar Manjhiwal, Registrar, said that the MoU emphasises on capacity building and skill enhancement for both academic and industrial personnel.
As part of the academic opportunities, IIITDM-K will offer Ph.D. and M.S. programmes for CMTI Scientists engaged in research and management activities.
Dr. Nagahanumaiah, Director, CMTI Bangalore said that the collaboration would ensure development of job ready manpower for the manufacturing sector, knowledge upgradation and research capability enhancement of the IIITDM-K faculty, opportunities for qualification enhancement of CMTI scientists, and development of capabilities and institutionalised platforms to work on futuristic requirements of the manufacturing sector.
