Harry and Meghan hit ski slopes at Invictus Games as Charles returns to London – live

King Charles waves to well-wishers in first public outing since cancer diagnosis

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were spotted hitting the slopes yesterday in preparation for next year’s Invictus Games amid backlash for their website rebrand.

The pair were pictured smiling in Whistler, Vancouver as they met athletes at the Blackcomb resort in British Columbia in preparation for next year’s winter games.

Harry founded the Paralympic-style sporting competition in 2014 for injured and sick veterans to aid their recovery.

The Duke of Sussex tried sit-down skiing, a form of the sport that allows disabled people to participate.

It comes amid backlash for the relaunch of their website from Archewell to Sussex.com after critics pointed out the couple were told to drop the use of HRH when they quit as working royals.

Meghan Markle responded to the criticism and praised the “attention to detail” and “creativity and care” of the designers

She said: “They’re not just designers; they are collaborators who elevate your ideas into visual identities. They’re a very special company. Plus they’re Canadian, so I’m a fan.”

It comes as King Charles returned from the capital to Sandringham after having his latest bout of cancer treatment and was pictured smiling with the Queen arriving at Clarence House.

ICYMI – Queen enjoys evening of Shakespeare featuring Dame Judi Dench and Gary Oldman

The Queen witnessed performances by Dame Judi Dench, Gary Oldman and Robert Lindsay at a star-studded event celebrating the work of William Shakespeare.

Camilla was greeted on her arrival at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel by a host of actors who have played Hamlet including Brian Cox, Jeremy Irons and David Mitchell.

She was then received by a dozen dames, including Dame Twiggy Lawson, Dame Vanessa Redgrave and Baroness Floella Benjamin.

On Valentine’s Day, Camilla was given two matching jumpers with a heart on them as a gift by event host Gyles Brandreth, who said he hoped they would keep the King and Queen “warm on those cold winter nights”.

Before his performance of Cole Porter’s Brush Up Your Shakespeare, Lindsay said Valentine’s Day was the “perfect day to celebrate the King’s love of Shakespeare, and indeed to celebrate the love between the King and the Queen”.

Other attendees at the celebrity-filled event included Charles Dance, Stephen Fry and Sir David Suchet.

Meghan and Harry address backlash after a flurry of announcements

The week has seen a flurry of announcements from the Sussexes with the duchess signing a deal with Lemonada Media to record new podcast shows, with the company also distributing her previous series.

Meghan’s Archetypes podcast about female stereotypes ran for just one series before her lucrative deal with Spotify ended in 2023.

The couple also relaunched their Archewell website, the name of their foundation, rebranding it as “The Office of Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex”.

Meghan Markle praised the “attention to detail” and “creativity and care” of the designers, after critics pointed out the couple were told to drop use of HRH when they quit as working royals. Even their use of the title Sussex was debated at Buckingham Palace.

Responding to criticism, Meghan Markle said: “They’re not just designers; they are collaborators who elevate your ideas into visual identities. They’re a very special company. Plus they’re Canadian, so I’m a fan.”

Duke of Sussex tries sit-skiing as he joins Invictus Games competitors in Canada

The Duke of Sussex has attempted sit-skiing as he joined Invictus Games competitors training in Canada to mark a year until the global sporting event.

Harry and the Duchess of Sussex met athletes at the Whistler Blackcomb ski resort in British Columbia on Wednesday.

The couple plan to visit more competitors at the host locations for the 2025 competition – the winter sports town of Whistler and the city of Vancouver in western Canada.

Harry founded the Paralympic-style sporting competition in 2014 for injured and sick military personnel and veterans to aid their recovery.

At the Games next year around 550 competitors from up to 25 nations will compete in indoor adaptive events like sitting volleyball, swimming and wheelchair basketball, and for the first time winter sports like alpine skiing, snowboarding and wheelchair curling will be on the schedule.

Sit skis enable people who might usually use a wheelchair or find it difficult to stand for long periods to ski, both with and without assistance.
