The third accused in the Hampi case involving the rape of two women — a foreign tourist and a local homestay owner — and the murder of a male tourist was arrested on Sunday in Tamil Nadu, according to Kannada and Culture Minister and Koppal district in charge Shivaraj Tangadagi. With this, all the three accused involved in the case have been arrested.
The Minister told media representatives in Koppal on Sunday that while two accused were arrested on Saturday, the third one, Sairam, was nabbed on Sunday.
“It is an unfortunate incident in which two women were allegedly raped and a male tourist from Odisha was killed over a trivial issue. The altercation that began with the accused demanding ₹100 for petrol and the tourists refusing it ended in the rape of women and the murder of a tourist. I have directed the police to tighten security in the area,” Mr. Tangadagi said.
The Minister advised tourists not to go out in such remote areas during late nights not just because of criminals but also because of the presence of wild animals such as leopards and bears in the area.
The Koppal police, meanwhile, took the two accused to the crime scene as part of the investigation.
