Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao directed officials to complete the ongoing Geddalahalli railway vent project near Sai Layout by December, citing its role in addressing recurrent flooding in the area.
On October 3, during an inspection across various locations within the East Corporation limits, Mr. Rao said the existing vent near Geddalahalli is too narrow to allow smooth flow of stormwater from a major drain, leading to flooding in adjoining residential areas.
To resolve the problem, the project is being executed at a cost of ₹13.36 crore. It involves casting two box structures, each 6 metres wide and 4.5 metres high, to be installed under the railway track.
The Commissioner directed that once the casting is complete, box pushing work must be expedited to meet the December deadline.
Taking note of garbage black spots in Sai Layout, Mr. Rao instructed the solid waste management team to clear them immediately and prevent their recurrence. He further directed repair and proper maintenance of CCTV cameras installed in such areas to curb illegal dumping.
