Former CJI N.V. Ramana emphasises need for affordable cancer treatment

Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) N.V. Ramana on Saturday stressed the need for affordable cancer treatment, while expressing concern over the rise in cancer cases across India.

Justice Ramana visited the first cancer hospital being constructed on the premises of Sri Gurudeva Charitable Trust at Mangalamapalem in Kothavalasa mandal of Vizianagaram district. He also visited the manufacturing unit of artificial limbs being provided by the Trust for physically challenged persons.

Speaking on the occasion, he lauded the Trust’s initiative in constructing the 100-bed cancer hospital in association with Vijayasri Uppalapati Foundation and said that the hospital with a service motto would ensure a new lease of life to those suffering from the chronic disease.

Trust’s founder Raparthi Jagadish Babu said that a survey of cancer patients was being conducted in the North Andhra region to ensure pre-medical services so that their condition would improve even before the scheduled opening of the hospital in the last week of December, 2024.

Earlier, Mr. Ramana distributed artificial limbs to physically challenged persons.
