Farmers take out protest march in Peruvannamuzhi

Members of the Thamarassery Diocese unit of the All-Kerala Catholic Congress on Saturday (August 2, 2025) took out a rally to the Forest Department office at Peruvannamuzhi braving intermittent rain accusing the government of ignoring their concerns over the rising wild animal attacks in the State.

They also formed a “fence” along the route using ‘saris’ as a symbolic protest against the delay in completion of the work on installing a solar fence to ward off the wild animal threat. Farmers from as many as 25 parishes attended the event.

Opening the protest, Abraham Vayalil, Vicar General, Thamarassery Diocese, alleged that Minister for Forests and Wildlife A.K. Saseendran had gone back on his promise made seven months ago that a solar fencing would be installed around the Peruvannamuzhi forest areas.

The “sari fence” protest was against the Minister’s breach of promise. Mr. Vayalil also said that the farmers would not have any sympathy for those who don’t stand with their causes.
