When Sharmila Tagore had reacted to Kareena Kapoor Khan’s comment about the way she has raised Saif Ali Khan: ‘I taught my children early on…’ – EXCLUSIVE | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

A while ago, when Kareena Kapoor Khan was shooting for a film in London, she had taken her son Jeh with her as he is quite young. However, her older son Taimur was at home with Saif Ali Khan and he took care of him. At that point, Kareena had said that she’s out for work while Saif is at home taking care of Taimur. She had credited Sharmila Tagore for her upbringing which makes Saif the way he is.
During a chat with ETimes, a while ago, while promoting her film ‘Gulmohar‘, Sharmila Tagore had reacted to this statement of Kareena and further revealed how she broke stereotypes. She also added that in those days, married women with children who were working were looked down upon. She told us, “All working women were frowned upon. The society thought we are bad women because we are leaving our children and going to work. But there’s a lot of pain and sacrifice in doing that. That’s how we were judged. Somehow, a man’s work was always valued. A woman’s work was not valued. The notion was that the man is earning a living, so your role is in the kitchen. I taught my children early in life that when I had to go to work, they tell me, ‘Get a 10 on 10’.”

She further elaborated, “The way I would wish them for exams, they had to wish me when I went to work. I have taught them that while I am not neglecting them, my work makes me happy, just like going to a birthday party makes them happy. They learnt to accept me as a working person and would ask me questions about my work. They didn’t think I was leaving them or depriving them by going to work.”
Tagore was last seen in ‘Gulmohar’ which recently won a National Award.
