The teaser of the upcoming Tamil coming-of-age drama, Bad Girl, was released by the makers today. Presented by ace filmmakers Anurag Kashyap and Vetri Maaran, the film is written and directed by Varsha Bharath.
The teaser begins to show a young woman (played by Anjali Sivaraman) confessing how she has always wanted a boyfriend. We then go back in time, to her early days in high school, to follow a coming-of-age story most young women might relate to. When puberty hits her, along with all the inexplicable desires that come with it, she is taken aback when her frankness about her feelings leads to her male classmates slut-shaming her, while her fellow girlfriends call her a ‘despo’. Then when she reaches college and gets into a relationship, the reality of her misogynistic world hits her hard.
The cast of the film also features Shanthi Priya, Saranya Ravichandran, Hridhu Haroon, TeeJay Arunasalam, Sashank Bommireddipalli.
This project marks the Tamil debut of National Award-winning music director Amit Trivedi, who has composed six songs for the movie. The film has cinematography by Preetha Jayaraman, Jagadeesh Ravi, and Prince Anderson, and editing by Radha Sridhar.
Bad Girl will have its world premiere at the 54th edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, from 30th January to 9th February 2025, where it has been selected to be a part of the prestigious Tiger Competition. Vetri also produces Bad Girl under his Grass Root Film Company banner.
