Saif Ali Khan’s attacker seeks bail; claims ‘false case’ has been registered against him | – The Times of India

Shariful Islam Shehzad, the man arrested in January 2025 for allegedly stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan in his home, has now filed a bail application in the Mumbai Sessions Court.
According to a report by India Today, Shehzad, in his plea insisted that the case against him was fabricated. “The FIR is patently false and a false case has been registered against him,” read the statement. His legal counsel further argued that Shehzad has cooperated with the investigation and poses no risk of tampering with evidence if granted bail.
The bail plea also claimed that keeping Islam detained for around 2 months, amounts to pre-trial punishment. “The applicant has cooperated with the investigation. Therefore, no useful purpose will be served by detaining him further in custody, save and except pre-trial punishment,” the plea added.
Shariful Islam Shehzad was accused of breaking into Saif’s Bandra home on January 16 with the intent to rob. However, as his robery attempt was foiled, he ended up assaulting the actor and reportedly stabbed him six times before fleeing the site.
Saif wwas hospitalised following the attack and had to undergo surgery for his wounds. He was discharged on January 21.
Previously, the accused’s father addressed the media and claimed that his son was being framed. As reported by TOI, he said, “They have arrested my son as a suspect, but he is not the one whose photograph the police had released after the incident… They have picked him up as he has some similarities.”
He went on to add that his son could never loot or attack someone while breaking down in tears and saying, “Police have framed him just because he is an easy suspect. We demand justice.”
