Ananya Pandey and R. Madhavan as Dilreet Gill and Neville McKinley in ‘Kesari Chapter 2’
Following the success of the 2019 Hindi-language film Kesari, directed by Anurag Singh and starring Akshay Kumar, Dharma Productions has greenlit a second installment in the series titled Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi and produced by Dharma Productions, Cape of Good Films, and Leo Media Collective, the film has actors Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan, and Ananya Pandey in the lead roles.
The makers released a teaser for the film, which will be released in theatres on April 18, earlier this week. On Friday (March 28, 2025), they followed it up by releasing the first look of the actors. The film is based on the Jallianwala Bagh massacre that took place on April 13, 1919 in Amritsar, Punjab.
Akshay Kumar essays the role of Sankaran Nair, a lawyer who intends to make the British apologise for the tragedy.
Ananya Pandey as Dilreet Gill can be heard saying, “Uss din Jallianwala Bagh mein jo hua, uska sach puri duniya ko pata chalna chahiye,” (The truth of what happened at Jallianwala Bagh that day must be told to the world).
Madhavan’s Neville McKinley was introduced on Instagram with the caption, “Sharp, fearless, undeniable… but playing for the other side!”
The movie is adapted from the book The Case That Shook The Empire, written by Pushpa Palat and Raghu Palat. The screenplay of the film is written by Tyagi and Amritpal Singh Bindra.
