A video of Kareena Kapoor Khan paying hearty homage to Raj Kapoor at International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards in Jaipur on Sunday (March 9) night has won hearts on the internet.

Raj Kapoor, Indian cinema’s greatest showman, directed and acted in several iconic films including Shree 420 and Mera Naam Joker. Taking the stage at IIFA, Kareena paid tribute to her grandfather by dancing to ‘Mera Joota Hai Japani’ from Shree 420. She also recreated Raj Kapoor’s iconic ‘little tramp’ look from the song: grey jacket, fedora, stick and cloth sack.

Kareena also danced to classic Raj Kapoor songs like ‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya’, ‘Pyar Hua Iqrar Hua’, ‘Jeena Yahan Marna Yahan’, and ‘Awara Hoon’.

Raj Kapoor, a titan of Indian cinema and culture, celebrated his centenary in 2024. Born in Peshawar, in British India, he was the son of Prithviraj Kapoor, patriarch of the Kapoor clan of actors and filmmakers. Kareena is the daughter of Raj Kapoor’s son Randhir Kapoor.

In December last year, members of the Kapoor family met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to commemorate hundred years of Raj Kapoor. There was also a retrospective of Raj Kapoor’s films in Indian theatres.
