Aanpirannol directed by Sivamohan Thampi has been chosen as the best teleserial in the Kerala State Television Awards for 2023, while Su.Su. Surabhiyum Suhasiniyum directed by Rajesh Thalachira was chosen as the second best teleserial.

In the past two years, no teleserials were chosen for the awards citing lack of quality of the entries. Minister for Cultural Affairs Saji Cherian announced the awards at a press conference here on Wednesday.

The jury noted with disappointment that only a handful of entries were of some quality, while a majority appeared to be following the same pattern in content and setting. It suggested that the makers avoid misogynistic and other regressive content in television serials. None of the entries in the children’s short film category were considered as they were not up to the mark.

The jury found most of the comedy programmes sub-standard, but still considered these as platforms to unearth fresh talents. The entertainment programmes directly produced by the channels were of a higher quality, noted the jury.

Best telefilm

Kanmashi directed by Anoop Krishnan won the award for the best telefilm (below 20-minute duration) and Lilly directed by Mariyam Shanoob was chosen as the best telefilm (above 20-minute duration). Anoop Krishnan also won the award for the best director (teleserial/telefilm) as well as best actor for the same telefilm. Seenu Raghavendra won the award for the second best actor for Amme Bhagavathy.

Riya Kuriakose and Mariam Shanoob shared the award for the best actor (female) for their performances in Aanpirannol and Lilly respectively. Anukutty won the award for the second best actor (female) for Su.Su. Surabhiyum Suhasiniyum. Ganga won the award for best story for Aanpirannol. Oru Chiri Iru Chiri Bumper Chiri won the award for the best comedy programme and Kidilam won the award for the best TV show (entertainment).

Child actor

Aadith Dev won the best child actor award for his performance in Madhuram. Shihab Ongallur won the best cinematographer award for Kanmashi and Vishu S. Parameswar won the award for best editing for Last Supper Second.

Shiny Jacob Benjamin won the award for the best director (documentary) for We Will Not Be Afraid, while Padmashri Guru Kalamandalam Kshemavathy directed by Jayaraj Puthumadam was chosen as the best documentary.
