Congress leaders predict jail term for KTR in Formula-E race case

Several Congress leaders, including MLC Balmur Venkat and Pargi MLA T. Ram Mohan Reddy, have alleged that Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao was involved in ‘corruption’ related to the Formula-E race case and predicted that KTR would face a jail term as a result.

Speaking at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday, MLC Balmur Venkat accused KTR of misconduct and urged the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to seize his passport to prevent him from leaving the country. “If KTR has done nothing wrong, why does he need a legal team? As a responsible legislator, he must prove his innocence,” Mr. Venkat said. He further alleged that ₹55 crore of public funds were misappropriated in dealings with foreign companies.

Meanwhile, Pargi MLA T. Ram Mohan Reddy highlighted the Telangana High Court’s dismissal of a criminal petition filed by KTR seeking to quash the case registered against him by the ACB. The case pertains to alleged misappropriation of funds related to the Formula-E race held during the BRS regime. “The court rejected the BRS’s argument of no corruption. With this decision, it is certain KTR will face jail,” Mr. Reddy said. He also criticized the BRS government for approaching the Supreme Court while dismissing allegations as ‘diversionary politics’.

Adding to the criticism, senior Congress leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir accused BRS leaders of shifting their stance on the controversial Formula-E race funding. Speaking at a meeting in Nizamabad, Mr. Shabbir claimed the BRS was attempting to mislead the public.
