Cognizant deploys 1 mn AI agents; to boost customer experience across verticals

Cognizant on Thursday said it has deployed over 1 million AI agents (agentic systems) between its facilities in San Francisco and Bengaluru in the last one year, in an effort to boost client experiences across multiple domains.

The New Jersey-based tech firm also said these agentic systems would play a key role at its newly set up AI Lab and Cognizant Moment Studio in Bengaluru. The new facility is expected to break down and shrink discovery processes, comprising the whole range of brainstorming, ideation, multiple layers of researches including synthetic research through AI personas, from months to weeks and even hours thereby resulting in quick prototyping of solutions for Cognizant’s global customers.

This 10,000 sq,ft facility which currently employs 40 people, with skill sets including psychologists, designers, human experience designers, AI scientists, AI strategists etc, would work with the customers right from ideation which would be validated by business analysts, domain experts and global compliance (technology and regulatory) professionals.

Mohan Krishnaraj, Global Head, Design, Product & Studios, Cognizant said, the AI Lab and Studio was currently ready for life sciences, healthcare and banking verticals while it was gearing up for the retail space and for which the company would set up some 10,000 additional AI agents.

Earlier addressing a select media group, Cognizant’s Chief AI Officer, Babak Hodjat said this new co-located innovation hub in Bengaluru would bring together applied AI and experience-led design to help enterprises move faster in the era of AI and turn ideas into scalable, trusted solutions.

According to Mr. Hodjat it was supported by simple, open source LLMs that are running entirely on the network node due to the sensitivity of what’s happening there and the speed-like response time requirements.

”We are LM agnostic. Each agent can take a primary LM and a backup LLM. It could be from different sources or we could use open source elements. And we’re cloud agnostic and we’re fully open source. You can actually go to GitHub and download this agentic system,’” he said while responding to a query.

However, he said, there’s no panacea on trusting LLM. “So we need to hit it in a number of different ways,’’ Mr. Hodjat opined.

Cognizant claimed its Moment Studio complemented this with experience-led transformation — bringing together creativity and technology to reimagine customer and employee experiences. And, the Lab would focus across business-ready multi-agent systems, AI decisioning, responsible AI, and AI-for-good initiatives. These facilities are aimed at CXOs and industry leaders, universities and researchers, startups and students.
