Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s proposed dinner meeting with Ministers on October 13 has given rise to speculation about a possible Cabinet reshuffle.

The government will complete its half-year term in November and rumours are doing the rounds about a possible Cabinet reshuffle to drop some senior leaders to assign party work and induct new faces to energise the State machinery.

Won’t talk about it: DKS

Meanwhile, speaking to reporters, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said that he was unaware of any Cabinet reshuffle and added that it was the prerogative of the Chief Minister.

“I will not talk about it. I will give my suggestion if it is discussed with me. I appeal to the media not to create unnecessary confusion on this,” he said.

Asked about a dinner get-together planned by the Chief Minister, he said, “What is wrong with a dinner party? It is natural for party leaders to get together, dine and discuss many issues.”

Ministers react

Home Minister G. Parameshwara and Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy also reacted to the proposed dinner meeting of the Chief Minister. They said Mr. Siddaramaiah earlier too had called dinner and breakfast meetings and discussed development works and the implementation of welfare schemes in the State.

Mr. Parameshwara said, “It is not that the dinner meeting is organised in the background of the Cabinet reshuffle. The Chief Minister has invited MLAs and Ministers to the dinner meeting in the past as well.”

It is reported that three Dalit ministers — G. Parameshwara, H.C. Mahadevappa and Satish Jarkiholi — held a breakfast meeting before attending a meeting of the State Cabinet on Thursday.

Meanwhile, sources said the dinner meeting scheduled for Monday is also likely to discuss Karnataka State Contractors’ Association (KSCA) allegations about the alleged “doubling of corruption” in eight departments and pending bills.
