Chevron, the Texas-based energy company, on Wednesday said it offered monitoring and maintenance services to several of its global sites, comprising upstream (exploration and production) and downstream (refining, marketing, and distribution) operations remotely from its Engineering and Innovation Excellence Centre in Bengaluru.

The company said the $1 billion investment, earmarked for India expansion, would be spent over the next four to five years, starting 2024, towards people, technology and infrastructure, across multiple years.

Chevron’s newly-opened Engineering and Innovation Centre of Excellence (ENGINE) in Bengaluru, the largest technology hub outside the U.S., is part of this investment. The centre would focus on technologies such as AI, IoT, machine learning and digital twins to support its global energy operations and its drive towards lower-carbon future.

“Chevron ENGINE is more than a workplace. It brings together India’s talent and Chevron’s global resources to meet today’s energy challenges and build tomorrow’s lower carbon energy system,’‘ said Akshay Sahni, Country Head, Chevron India.

Addressing the media he said, from AI-powered technology solutions and robotics toholographic experience centres to digital twins of complex processing facilities, Chevron was transforming how work gets done.

“ENGINE was already supporting Chevron’s global businesses – from subsurface modelling to complex processing facility performance monitoring – underpinned by a strong focus on AI and digital solutions. Chevron ENGINE is about scaling high impact technology solutions to deliver affordable, reliable and ever cleaner energy,’‘ Mr. Sahni added.

Chevron, which produces crude oil and natural gas, manufactures transportation fuels, lubricants, petrochemicals and additives and develops various technologies, currently has over 1,000 professionals at ENGINE.
