As part of community engagement, Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner P. Rajendra Cholan has proposed weekly walkathons involving residents and students, along with monthly cultural events, by restricting vehicular movement on Gandhi Bazaar Road.
Mr. Cholan inspected Gandhi Bazaar on Tuesday and ordered the removal of encroachments from footpaths, creating pedestrian-friendly walkways, eliminating accident-prone black spots, clearing unauthorised overhead cables, and planting saplings along pathways to improve greenery. He urged officials to raise awareness among traders on scientific waste management and to earmark specific zones for street vendors.
Mr. Cholan pointed out that designated vending spaces had already been identified on Gandhi Bazaar Road. Vendors are required to limit their operations to these designated stretches, failing which they will face strict action. He further instructed officials to ensure pedestrian pathways are kept free of parked vehicles.
Highlighting infrastructure readiness, Mr. Cholan noted that the multi-level car parking facility built under the Smart City project at Gandhi Bazaar is now complete. The structure, which includes 50 commercial shops and space for 124 vehicles, is equipped with modern amenities. Preparations for its inauguration will begin shortly, he added.
He directed officials to prepare a comprehensive feasibility report for transforming Sunkenahalli Ward into a model ward.
