The Apollo Tyres has launched an agroforestry drive in the vicinity of its plant in Tirupati district. As part of the initiative, more than 25,000 fruit and timber trees will be planted in 55 acres of farmland, benefiting 55 farmers’ families.
The project was launched at Rachapalem village in Satyavedu constituency on Friday (January 10, 2025). Applo Tyres Tirupati unit head Anand Satyamurthy, Chinnetipakam village president Ruban Babu, community leaders, social activists and the local farmers planted saplings.
The plantation includes fruit-bearing trees such as mango, coconut, guava and jackfruit, alongside timber trees, ensuring a balance between immediate agricultural produce and long-term sustainability, said a representative of Apollo Tyres.
Similarly, the company’s initiative to introduce mixed cropping system by encouraging farmers to grow watermelon, groundnut and other seasonal crops improves their household income, he said.
