Brand-new car gutted in fire; family escapes unhurt in Kasaragod

A newly purchased car was completely destroyed in a fire at Cherkala Pulikund around 5.30 a.m. on Friday (May 23). Fortunately, the five-member family travelling in it escaped unharmed.

The incident occurred while the family was driving from Mumbai to Kannapuram. Shortly after reaching Pulikund, smoke began to billow from the bonnet of the vehicle, prompting the passengers to exit immediately before the car caught fire.

The Kasaragod Fire and Rescue Services team, led by senior officer V.N. Venugopal, rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. However, by the time the flames were doused, the vehicle was completely gutted.

Iqbal Muhammad Kutty, the car owner, said the vehicle was only a month old. His wife, Rubina, and their three children were also in the car at the time.

Valuables lost in the fire included ₹25,000 in cash, five sovereigns of gold, identity cards, two mobile phones, clothes, bags, and vehicle documents. Following the incident, the police took the family to the station. Later, relatives from Kannapuram took them home.
