The Telangana BJP has alleged large-scale irregularities and discrepancies in the recently published draft voters’ lists and has urged the State Election Commission (SEC) to order an immediate inquiry and rectification.
In a representation submitted to the State Election Commissioner on Friday, BJP leaders claimed that voters were wrongly shown in wards, municipalities and even Assembly constituencies where they do not reside, resulting in what they termed as the “wrongful displacement” of voters from their legitimate electoral jurisdictions.
According to the BJP, voters belonging to one ward were found enrolled in entirely different wards, while voters of one Assembly constituency were shown in municipalities falling under another constituency. In several cases, voters from Gram Panchayats that do not come under municipal limits were allegedly included in neighbouring municipalities.
Citing specific examples, the party said voters from the Miryalaguda Assembly constituency were reflected in Devarakonda municipality. It further alleged that voters from Tallagaddamiryalguda village, Gottimukkala village, located nearly 20 km away from Devarakonda, and Thatikol Gram Panchayat were incorrectly shown as voters in Devarakonda municipality. Voters from Sherpalli Gram Panchayat were also found listed in Devarakonda municipality, the BJP claimed.
The party said such discrepancies were not isolated and similar mismatches were prevalent in other municipalities, including Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Adilabad.
Stating that voter lists are prepared under the authority and supervision of the Election Commission of India, the BJP demanded an inquiry to identify officials responsible for what it described as manipulation or tampering of the voters’ lists.
The representation was signed by former Minister and Chairman of the BJP State Election Commission Affairs Committee Marri Shashidhar Reddy, and BJP State General Secretary N. Goutham Rao, State Secretary Tutupalli Ravi Kumar, committee member K. Anthony Reddy and former State Secretary and spokesperson S. Prakash Reddy.
