Another incident of tourists travelling on taxi booked online being blocked was reported in Munnar on Wednesday.
According to officials, the incident occurred at a private resort in old Munnar. The incident happened to a group of women tourists from Israel, who had arrived in Munnar three days before. Though they were using local vehicles for sight seeing, they had booked on online taxi for their return journey to Kochi. A group of local taxi drivers reportedly blocked their way when the taxi arrived at the resort to pick up the tourists.
Munnar Deputy Superintendent of Police S. Chandrakumar said a police team rushed to the spot when they received information about the incident and arranged for the tourists to continue their journey on the online taxi. “No complaints were received regarding the incident,” said the officer.
In another incident, an Assistant Professor from Mumbai had complained about a group of local taxi drivers harassing her for using an online taxi during her visit to Munnar recently. The police had registered a case against three taxi drivers and suspended their licences.
