AIFF turns to State associations to find a solution for ISL impasse

The AIFF rejected the proposal for a club-owned league model and decided to go with its State associations to find a way to organise the Indian Super League this season.

The decision came during the Federation’s annual general meeting, which took up for discussion a proposal by the majority of the clubs from the ISL who decided to form a consortium to run the top league in the coming seasons. A majority of the members disagreed with the clubs’ proposal, which was presented on their behalf by the Mohun Bagan Super Giant CEO Vinay Chopra, to manage the league in perpetuity.

The Federation instead decided to appoint a three-member committee to find a solution in keeping with the provisions in the new constitution approved by the Supreme Court.

The new committee will be composed of members from the three States — Kerala FA president Navas Meeran, Goa FA president Caitano Fernandes and Indian FA (Bengal) secretary Anirban Datta.

The AIFF deputy secretary general M. Satyanarayan will be the ex-officio member in the committee, which will hold discussions with representatives from five clubs, including Chennaiyin FC, Mumbai City FC, Delhi SC, NorthEast United FC, and Bagan between Dec. 22 to 29 to find a solution to the current impasse.

The AGM also constituted a three-member committee — comprising Andhra Pradesh FA president Kotagiri Sridhar, Mizoram FA secretary Lalrengpuia, and Punjab FA secretary Harjinder Singh — to address the issues regarding the organisation of the I-League.
