Agriculture department gearing up for Statewide implementation of Digital Crop Survey

The Agriculture department is all set to carry out Digital Crop Survey, which seeks to provide up-to-date data on farmers, farmlands and crops, across the State.

Crop surveyors selected for the purpose will visit survey plots allotted to them and record the data, geo-tag and photograph the location.

Part of a nationwide Central Sector Scheme, the survey and the database thus created will help the State Agriculture department plan new schemes effectively, the department said.

The data collection, based on revenue records, examines whether a particular plot is under cultivation or lying fallow or whether it is non-farm land. Data on crops under cultivation and irrigation are also recorded as part of the survey. The data is uploaded via a mobile app.

The survey is carried out twice a year during the kharif and rabi seasons. This database will help farmers benefit from Central schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, different agricultural loan schemes, and the Kisan Credit Card benefits.

The department has urged farmers to cooperate with the crop survey.
