Air-conditioning makers in India are witnessing supply of components airlifted, which includes such as compressors, cross flow fans/motors, and PCB circuits to meet the surging demand driven by the relentless heatwave affecting most parts of the country. This spike in demand has led to record AC sales, according to industry sources.
Companies are importing components from global suppliers in China, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan via air freight to maintain production and keep their supply lines intact, as traditional ocean freight delivery takes longer. Some manufacturers have increased prices by 4-5 per cent , reflecting the hike in costs for metals like copper and aluminum.
As consumption of electricity has increased many-fold on the back of an intense heat wave, power demand during the peak season to an all-time high level of 8656 MW on Wednesday afternoon, discom officials informed. The peak power demand was on Tuesday recorded at 8647 MW, being the second highest in this summer season.
As per the realtime data issued by State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) Delhi, the peak power demand reached 8656 MW at around 3:06 pm on Wednesday.
