Veteran film music composer, singer, and writer Ilaiyaraaja has announced that he has composed a new symphony in the last 35 days.

In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), the composer said he had been hearing that a lot of videos had been posted about him on social media. But he does not pay any heed to such news.

“I am clear in the path that I am taking. During this time that you have been wishing me well, I have written a symphony with four movements, while also attending functions and composing film songs,” he said, adding that he was very happy to share this happy news with his fans.

Ilaiyaraaja added how film and background music are different from a symphony, and how his symphony is devoid of any elements of film and background music.

On the film front, the composer’s upcoming projects include Vishal’s Thupparivaalan 2, Alphonse Puthren’s Gift, and Vetri Maaran’s much-awaited Viduthalai Part 2.

Ilaiyaraaja was recently in the news for issuing a legal notice to Sun Pictures over the allegedly illegal use of a song from his 1983 film Thanga Magan in their upcoming Rajinikanth-starrer Coolie. The composer has been fighting a long ongoing copyright case demanding “special moral rights” over the 4,500 songs he composed for more than 1,000 between the 1970s and 1990s.

Meanwhile, a biopic on Ilaiyaraaja was announced in March with Dhanush on board to star as the composer. The film will be directed by Arun Matheswaran.
