IPL 2024, KKR vs RR Preview: Kolkata Knight Riders host Rajasthan Royals in top-of-the-table clash | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Rajasthan Royals‘ formidable batting lineup faces a formidable challenge as they gear up to decode the mystery of Sunil Narine‘s spin at Eden Gardens in a top-of-the-table clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday.
Narine, a pivotal figure in KKR’s past triumphs under Gautam Gambhir‘s leadership, has consistently posed a threat to opposition batters with his crafty bowling since joining the franchise in 2012.Now reunited with Gambhir in a mentoring role, Narine’s recent performances have reignited KKR’s title aspirations.
Despite not grabbing headlines with his figures of 1/19 against Sunrisers Hyderabad and 1/17 against Lucknow Super Giants, Narine’s economical spells, devoid of boundaries, have been instrumental in KKR’s victories. His ability to choke the opposition in the middle overs, as witnessed in the match against LSG, adds to his significance in the team’s strategy.
In the upcoming clash, the likes of Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, and Shimron Hetmyer will face the challenge of tackling Narine’s spin prowess. However, the availability of Jos Buttler, after missing the previous fixture against Punjab Kings, remains uncertain.
With a strike rate of 183.51 and an average of over 33 this season, Narine’s impact for KKR is reminiscent of Rashid Khan’s influence for his respective team.
Moreover, the resurgence of Mitchell Starc, who claimed two crucial wickets in the last over against LSG, adds depth to KKR’s bowling arsenal.
In contrast, KKR’s batting lineup, anchored by Phil Salt and Narine at the top, and Andre Russell’s late blitz, faces scrutiny, especially with skipper Shreyas Iyer’s inconsistent form. Despite his unbeaten 38 in the previous chase against LSG, Shreyas’ struggles against pace and spin raise concerns for KKR’s middle order.
While KKR’s Indian batters have yet to be thoroughly tested, RR boasts a formidable bowling lineup featuring Trent Boult, Avesh Khan, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Keshav Maharaj, with the potential addition of Ravichandran Ashwin if fit.
