Weather update: Will it rain in Delhi? Check IMD predictions for Uttar Pradesh, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru – The Times of India


While most parts of North India struggle with severe pollution, this comes as a hopeful prediction from the weather department. According to IMD Mausam, major Indian cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Shimla and Kolkata will experience a mix of cool dry days. The cities will also have early-morning fog. Let’s have a closer look at the IMD predictions for these citiesDelhi NCR – No rain, rising pollution, dense fog, low visibilityWinter has finally settled in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) with foggy mornings and morning chills. As per the official IMD forecast, December 16 the city will see clear skies with temperatures between 22–24 °C during the day. Nighttime temperature will hover between 8–10 °C. The winter mornings are expected to be foggy in isolated regions. However, there is no rainfall prediction for Delhi. Visibility at Safdarjung and Palam airports dropped to around 50 metres yesterday, affecting flight operations. A number of flights were cancelled from Delhi Airport because of poor visibility. Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana – Dense fog, Low visibilityIMD has predicted dense to very dense fog in Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana on December 16. Temperatures will remain around 20–21 °C and lows near 9–10 °C. The crisp winter air and cloudless views make Shimla’s scenic attractions in this season.In its latest bulletin, IMD said, “Dense fog conditions very likely to prevail during early hours/morning hours in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh & Delhi on 16th & 17th, Himachal Pradesh during 16th-18th and Northeast India during 16th-20th December”.As per the weather department, visibility has seen a sharp dip in several regions including in Agra and Prayagraj. Visibility t was only 20 metres in the Taj Agra. Cities such as Aligarh, Bareilly, Varanasi, Ghazipur, and Etawah recorded visibility ranging between 25 and 150 metres. Mumbai – Dry conditions, no rainfallMumbai will see predominantly dry conditions and daytime temperatures in the mid-20s °C. Sea breezes will keep the climate comfortable and isolated showers are possible in coastal seams in mid-December. No rainfall prediction for Mumbai. Kolkata – Minimal rainfallKolkata is predicted to have cooler days with minimal rainfall. The city’s colonial architecture, sprawling parks and festive season markets are best explored in this comfortable winter climate.Chennai – RainfallChennai will be warm, comfortable days and with cooler nights. As per recent IMD forecasts, the temperatures hover in the 20–22 °C range. It is a comfortable time for beach visits and cultural tours. However, Chennai is predicted to receive 0.3 to 1.3 mm of rain today.Bengaluru – No rain, cooler daysBengaluru’s weather too will remain travel friendly on December 16. While fog can descend in the early hours, occasionally reducing visibility, daytime conditions are clear. This mild weather is perfect for exploring the city’s gardens and other prominent attractions. Hyderabad – Chilly morningsHyderabad is expected to have chilly mornings. Nighttime temperatures are predicted to drop below 10 °C in some regions. However, clear daytime skies make it pleasant for daytime outings like Charminar and Golconda Fort.
