Universal and Illumination have dropped the first trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the animated sequel to 2023’s billion-dollar hit The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The film will release in U.S. theatres on April 3, 2026.

Chris Pratt returns as the voice of Mario, alongside Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. Joining the ensemble are Oscar-winner Brie Larson as the celestial Princess Rosalina and filmmaker Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., marking his first major voice role.

Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel, the film adapts the beloved 2007 Nintendo game Super Mario Galaxy. The story takes the Mushroom Kingdom into outer space, with Mario and Luigi navigating cosmic worlds, new galaxies, and an even more mischievous Bowser family dynamic.

Producers Chris Meledandri and Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto return to oversee the project, continuing their collaboration after The Super Mario Bros. Movie became the third-highest-grossing animated film of all time, earning $1.36 billion globally.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is expected to expand Illumination and Nintendo’s cinematic universe, setting up potential spin-offs centred on other Mario franchise favourites like Yoshi and Donkey Kong.
