Granting industry status to the tourism sector and introducing a new tourism policy would greatly contribute to the development of this field, said Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Cinematography Kandula Durgesh.
Participating as the chief guest in the tourism stakeholders’ meeting, organised by the A.P. Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation, at Hotel Hyatt in Vijayawada on Monday, the Minister said that the State government, during its 16 months of governance, had implemented numerous programmes and took several revolutionary decisions.
He said that the government introduced policies such as A.P. Tourism Land Allotment, Caravan and Homestay, outlining the government’s vision for the sector. Mr. Durgesh added that by working together, the new federation executive committee and the government can make tourism not only profitable, but also provide pleasant experiences for tourists, while generating employment opportunities for many.
Commending the federation for organising the event, the Minister said regular coordination between the government and stakeholders would yield many benefits.
Later, A.P. Star Hotels Association (ASHA) president R.V. Swami announced that their association would extend full support on behalf of the hotel industry for the upcoming tourism summit to be held in Visakhapatnam on November 14 and 15.
Special Chief Secretary Ajay Jain, A.P. Tourism Development Corporation Managing Director K. Amrapali, NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha and others were present in the meeting.
