IMD issues weather warnings across India amid forecast of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds – The Times of India

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded weather warnings as some parts of the nation are expected to receive heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in the coming days. All the tourists and residents are required to stay vigilant and exercise all necessary precautions as unsuitable weather conditions prevail over the Southern Peninsular India, East, Central and some parts of Western India as well. This is based on a weather report published in the National Weather Forecasting Center of the Indian Meteorological department on October 16th.

For South Peninsular India:

The IMD forecasts light to moderate shower and thunderstorms in scattered places over South Peninsular India. But Tamil Nadu, will also see isolated to heavy rain during 16th-20th October, Kerala and Mahe to have the same, between 16th October and 21st October. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Lakshadweep areas too will see sporadic rains and thunderstorms during the time, the rain action up to Yanam and Rayalaseema on 16th-17th October.Heavy rain warning is issued in some parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Mahe, on the 16th of October and 17th as well. This rain could potentially cause waterlogging or flooding in vulnerable and low-lying areas. The region is also expected to have thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 km/h in the next five days. Authorities have asked citizens to exercise care and keep themselves updated with local weather conditions.

For East and Central India:

Thunderstorms with lightning and squally winds, which are 30 to 40 km/h, are predicted over south Odisha on the 16th of October. Lightning is expected over certain parts of Madhya Pradesh during the day. These weather conditions are also expected to disrupt outdoor activity and cause temporary inconvenience to individuals, especially in rural and semi-urban areas. The IMD advises residents to adopt appropriate precautions to protect themselves from lightning risk and from disturbances by wind.

West India:

The Goa and Konkan regions, are likely to witness thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning on the 16th and 17th October. In addition to this, the areas might also experience scattered heavy rain, in certain parts of the region on October 16th. Residents who are travelling for work or otherwise are asked to take any precautions necessary, depending upon the intensity of the rain

Precautions to be taken

As mentioned above, the heavy rains and thunderstorms forecasted by IMD has warned people against venturing into low-lying or flood-prone areas of the stay, are urged to stay indoors throughout heavy rains. Though all the farmers, fishermen, and workers are asked to take great precautions, follow all safety measures. It is to be noted, that while rains are utmost important for crops, it serves as a reminder that safety should never be compromised. Individuals are urged to monitor and pay attention to any alerts/warning signs/ or messages issued by local government, ensuring an informed and safe community.
