A24 has released the first trailer for Pillion, a queer romantic dramedy starring Alexander Skarsgård as a leather-clad biker gang leader and Harry Melling as the timid young man who becomes his unlikely partner.
Written and directed by Harry Lighton in his feature debut, Pillion adapts Adam Mars-Jones’ 2020 novel Box Hill. The story follows Colin (Melling), a shy, awkward young gay man whose life changes when he meets Ray (Skarsgard), the confident leader of a motorcycle club. What begins as a chance encounter quickly transforms into a dom-sub relationship, pulling Colin into a world of queer bikers, leather bars, and unconventional intimacy.
The trailer teases their dynamic: Colin and Ray’s flirtatious barroom meet-cute leads to scenes of harness fittings, playful wrestling, and blunt instructions about sex toys. Lighton has described the movie as one that should “make you laugh, make you think, make you feel and make you horny.” Early reviews suggest he’s achieved that balance.

The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a seven-minute standing ovation from the Palais audience. Skarsgard, best known for The Northman and Big Little Lies, and Melling, acclaimed for The Queen’s Gambit and The Pale Blue Eye, bring unexpected chemistry to this unconventional love story.
Pillion will be released in theaters by A24 later this year.
